Winter is upon us. The days are getting shorter, nights are getting longer weather is getting colder and several holidays are knocking on the door. And with those holidays comes the holiday giving season. It is the time of year where we all dig deep into our pockets and donate what we can to those who are less fortunate. Some of the most traditional methods of donating including volunteering at a soup kitchen or a homeless shelter or giving money to the Salvation Army or any other number of charities.

While those are all perfectly viable methods of donation, why not try something a little different this year? Shake things up a bit and donate in unique and interesting ways. Here are a few different ways to donate with a twist.

Tabs for a Cause

When you think of the holiday season, you usually envision family, food and department store deals. And in today’s technologically driven world, you will more than likely be holiday shopping online. And if you are like most other online shoppers, you will have multiple different websites open on different tabs on your web browser in an attempt to find the best possible deal. Since you’ll have those tabs open anyways, you might as well donate while you’re doing it. Tabs for a Cause allows your multitasking habit to do something good for the world. For every tab opened, Tabs for a Cause’s sponsors will donate a fraction of a penny to charity.

GoodDining

The holiday season is notorious for the many food-induced comas it has caused. Food has become synonymous with this time of year. While some prefer a nice, home-cooked meal, others prefer to eat out. And for those that prefer the latter, there is a great way to donate to charity while dining at your favorite restaurant. GoodDining allows subscribers to register a credit or debit card with their service; when you use the registered card at a participating restaurant, 2.5 to 5 percent of the payment is deducted and donated to charity.

Charity Miles

The cold weather of the winter season may get many down, but others use that cold weather to fuel their fitness. Charity Miles allows you to now only stay fit, but also donate to charity while doing it. The application (which is available on both iOS and Android) tracks users’ activity and then uses that information to make charitable donations. Bicyclists can donate 10 cents per mile while runners can donate 25 cents per mile.

These are only a few unique ways to flex your charitable muscles this holiday season. Make sure to look into other ways where you can spend your time doing something meaningful.

Good luck and have a happy holiday.
